In my early years of childhood my
parents always had me around on
the job field. Being
there I
was able
to experience first hand what it was
to manage a company. Immediately
it
sparked my
interest and I spent
every day in the office and on job
sites observing my parents run a
large
business by themselves.
This business is important to my
family and I because it is the first
company ever
created by my
parents together, 22 years ago. This
business was created to make sure
my family always
had
security but
owning a successful business also
introduced us to an entirely
different
lifestyle
of independence and
freedom. This change in our family
brought heavy influence into what
I
would
look for with my future career
plans and life goals.
He Brew’s coffee shop is located at 210 Victoria St. Kamloops. He Brews is a family owned local cafe that opened in April 2020 serving a wide variety of breakfast items, drinks and pastries to enjoy.
This is a very important business to my family and I must ensure it’s success. Through this business, a gateway for residence into Canada for my entire family has been established. This company is especially important to me because of the abundance of input and value I personally hold here as a partner on this journey with my parents. My family works tirelessly every single day together to help build this company to be the best it can be. Not only is owning this buiness essential for us to live here in Canada, but it has always been a dream of my mom’s to open a café in Canada for everyone to enjoy. I feel truly honoured to be part of her journey and making her dreams become reality.
Here I have learnt many skills that I am grateful for such as: being able to cook in an industrial environment, learning how to barista, enhancing my photography and marketing skills, and most importantly the networking and social skills I have gained. During my time helping at the café, I’ve made some truly special and important relationships with clients that I think can help me throughout my career.
Although there are many benefits to working in such an environment, running a family-owned business is very time consuming and challenging at times. We sometimes struggle with a work life balance which could put a strain on our tight bond at times leaving us frustrated with each other and bickering some days. We hope to overcome this by training more staff to take over our roles there and make more time for family bonding activities outside of a work environment, as we have so started to do.

GBS is one of the newer projects my family has been working on that could also be a step in the door with getting our citizenship in Canada. With this business being similar to our company back home (ETMCL) my parents will be able to build it up very quickly with their vast knowledge in that industry.
Now that I am more knowledgeable in business management and sales, I can’t wait to help
my parents out on this project and see if any new interests come up along the way. I
believe getting the hands-on experience in a variety of jobs is very important for my
diverse career path I aspire to have. I will also grow fresh perspectives on business
with this diversification.
I feel very lucky to have such a successful family who has paved the way in giving me an
“easy” step in the door and be so supported by everyone in all my ideas and business
ventures.
